Back to School Backpack Project To Distribute School Supplies on Saturday from 8 a.m. - 10 a.m
“Back to School Backpack Project,” a local effort to help families struggling to provide back-to-school supplies, will host a backpack distribution on Saturday, August 1st from 8 a.m. – 10 a.m. at The Salvation Army (1000 C. Ave NW). The campaign, which worked to collect money and donated items, plans to give away 2,000 backpacks on a first-come, first-served basis.

Flood the Run Partners with AirFX to Offer Party Packages to Teams
It’s time to get your team registered for Flood the Run! Teams of 10 or more runners will receive $2 off each member, and teams of 25 or more will receive $5 off each member. Additionally, all teams registered by July 19th will have the opportunity to win one of three party packages for 25 to AirFX Trampoline Park. The party will include jump time, pizza, drinks, grip socks and Lazer Frenz. All teams of 10 or more registered by July 19th qualify.

Back to School Backpack Project – Local Organizations Raising Funds to Provide Children with School Supplies for 2015-2016 School Year
Unfortunately there are many families in Cedar Rapids that struggle to provide the simple necessities for heading back to school. That is why six area organizations have come together to help distribute backpacks with school supplies. Last year 2,140 backpacks were distributed to Linn County children because of the wonderful support of the community.

The Salvation Army Hosts Two Community Easter Events Next Week: Spring Fling - Tuesday, March 31st and Easter Community Meal - Wednesday, April 1st
The Salvation Army will host its annual Spring Fling family event on Tuesday, March 31st at its location at 1000 C Avenue NW from 4:30 - 6 pm. Activities will take place throughout the building. There will be games, crafts, story time, the Easter Bunny and more. Kids can also jump in the giant Salvation Army red kettle bounce house. This free event is open to the public. The Salvation Army will also hold its annual Easter community meal on Wednesday, April 1st at its facility. The free meal is served from 11:30 am - 1 pm and is open to anyone. Buffalo Wild Wings Partners With The Salvation Army During March Madness
Buffalo Wild Wings on Blairs Ferry Road in Cedar Rapids will partner with The Salvation Army for five days during “March Madness” as a part of their “Eat Wings. Raise Funds.” program. On March 18th, 23rd, 25th, 30th and April 1st. Buffalo Wild Wings will donate 10% of the sales from patrons who bring in a ticket showing their participation in the program. Hours are 11:00am – 1:00am and tickets can be found at tsacedarrapids.org.

The Salvation Army in Cedar Rapids Looks for a Strong Year -End Push to Make Their Goal of $715,000
On Christmas Eve the bells at the Red Kettles finished ringing, but the goal has yet to be met. Currently, The Salvation Army in Cedar Rapids has raised 89% of their goal with $634,996. Another $80,004 needs to be raised in order to meet the $715,000 goal. This goal is about 40% of the annual operating budget which helps provide a community meal program, rent and utility assistance, supplemental food boxes, senior services, youth character building programs, and various other social services.

On Thursday, June 12th The Salvation Army will be presenting an Outdoor Concert & Auction at NewBo City Market from 5:00pm – 8:00pm. The silent auction will open at 5:00pm and the Eastern Iowa Brass Band will begin performing at 6:00pm on the outside stage. The indoor market vendors will also be open throughout the evening to guests.
